Why Deep TMS?

Superior Research, Technology, and User Experience

Technology has improved at a rapid pace over recent decades – shouldn’t your TMS system as well?

BrainsWay Deep TMS™ is the most advanced TMS technology available, with a number of key advantages over First-Generation TMS systems.

Through unparalleled innovation, clinical research, and use in hundreds of clinics and hospitals throughout the world, only BrainsWay is advancing Deep TMS into new therapy areas in psychiatry, neurology, and addiction medicine.

BrainsWay’s unique coil design enables deeper and broader stimulation than first-generation figure-8 TMS coils, resulting in greater activation of neurons, less likelihood of targeting errors, and high efficacy rates1.  First-Generation TMS coils have changed minimally since first used in 1985.

Clinical advantages of Deep TMS over First-Generation TMS have been validated through an independent head-to-head study of TMS technologies1.

Beyond the technology itself, BrainsWay empowers mental health providers to be successful in treating patients with TMS via our flexible business models and total customer support.

How Does BrainsWay Deep TMS Work?

Deeper & Broader Stimulation, Activating More Neurons

Deep TMS technology, unique to BrainsWay, enables non-invasive activation of deeper and broader brain structures thanfirst-generation figure 8-coil TMS systems, allowing the H-Coil to potentially address a wider range of neuropsychiatric conditions.

With all forms of TMS, the intensity of stimulation naturally decays as it reaches deeper into the brain. Our unique coil design allows for the strength of stimulation to be maintained at effective levels even in regions deeper within the brain that are affiliated with the indications we treat1.

For patients that are older, First-Generation TMS may not penetrate deep enough to generate a therapeutic effect, as in the case of late-life depression3.

A Patient’s Journey Roadmap

What happens: You will meet with our compassionate TMS clinical team to discuss your mental health history, past treatments, and goals.

Insurance check: We verify your insurance benefits on the spot and explain your coverage options to eliminate financial surprises.

The outcome: You get honest answers to all your questions and a clear answer on whether TMS is the right medical fit for you.

What happens: Before your first full session, our psychiatrist performs a mapping session to calibrate the TMS equipment specifically to your brain’s anatomy.

The process: We find your precise “motor threshold”—the exact location and light magnetic pulse level needed to target the mood-regulating center of your brain.

The outcome: Your treatment coil is customized to your unique measurements, ensuring every session is accurate, effective, and safe.

The routine: You visit our clinic 5 days a week (Monday–Friday) for approximately 6 to 8 weeks. Sessions range from 19 to 30 minutes.

The experience: Recline comfortably in a chair while the device delivers gentle magnetic pulses (feeling like a light tapping on your scalp). You can watch TV, listen to music, or chat with your technician.

Zero downtime: Because there is no sedation, anesthesia, or systemic medication, you can drive yourself to and from appointments and immediately return to work, school, or daily activities.

Continuous evaluation: We track your mood improvements throughout the weeks using standard clinical assessments (such as the PHQ-9) to celebrate your milestones.

Post-treatment plan: As your treatment series concludes, we create a tailored aftercare strategy in collaboration with your primary psychiatrist or therapist.

Ongoing support: We check in periodically to ensure your progress remains stable, providing peace of mind and long-term partnership in your mental health.

Try TMS – A Proven Alternative Treatment for Depression

The 9-question Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) is a diagnostic tool introduced in 2001 to screen adult patients in a primary care setting for the presence and severity of depression.  It rates depression based on the self-administered Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ).  The PHQ is part of Pfizer’s larger suite of trademarked products, called the Primary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders (PRIME-MD).  The PHQ-9 takes less than 3 minutes to complete and simply scores each of the 9 DSM-IV criteria for depression based on the mood module from the original PRIME-MD.  Primary care providers frequently use the PHQ-9 to screen for depression in patients.
